Loss Control / Expediting

Liquid cargoes are of high value. We understand that a minor variation in cargo quantity or slight delay in vessel loading or discharging can translate into considerable losses for you. As your trusted representative, we cover all aspects of cargo loss prevention and cargo expediting. We are well versed with every step that can affect the cargo quantity or vessel’s turnaround time. We closely monitor all activities on vessel as well as at terminal to ensure that we safeguard your interest at every stage. On vessel and shore we ensure that · Independent inspection company adheres to API and ASTM standards. · Vessel Experience Factor (VEF) is calculated correctly. We know that a variation in VEF by 0.00005 can affect the cargo quantity by about 1,000 bbls on a VLCC. · OBQ/ROB inspections are carried out accurately using the appropriate dipping point. We determine liquid as well as non-liquid quantities during the inspection so that you can be sure of these quantities on the vessel. · Measuring equipment are intact. · No short cuts are taken while ullaging to avoid interpolations and that every millimetre is accurately measured. We know that 1 cm difference in ullages equates to about 800 bbls on a VLCC. · Multi-level temperatures are taken accurately. We know that 1o C variance in temperature could result in a quantity difference of about 1,500 bbls on a VLCC. · Free water is determined accurately and patiently using the suitable water finding paste. · Scrutinise ship’s loading and discharging sequence to ensure fastest turnaround. · Condition of shore lines and if required determine line quantity by line displacement. · Witness shore tank gauging to determine final outturn figures.

We liaise closely with the vessel, terminal and you. This ensures smooth operations from start to finish. During cargo operations we maintain contact with you and act as your “eyes and ears”, In any situation where conflict becomes evident, we immediately inform you and take best actions to safeguard your interest. We cover entire range of liquid cargoes including crude oil, petroleum products, edible oils, chemicals LPG and LNG.

Bunker Survey

At the present market price of Fuel Oil and LSMGO, the bunker cost is an important part of Charterer’s expenses.     There are many ways to hide the bunkers: Short bunker delivery, hidden compartments, altered sounding pipe lengths, magic pipes, altered sounding tables, sounding tapes not properly calibrated, tampered gauge level, valves, lines and others.    In order to prevent fuel losses our experienced surveyors carryout an impartial, independent quantity measurement inspection for marine fuels, issuing detailed bunker survey reports to confirm actual bunker quantity on board.

Other Services

Maritime Training :

During our role as incident investigator we realized and concluded that the incident could have been avoided if the crew had been a little more vigilant and used their knowledge just in time.
In most cases, we found that the Company had provided all the “necessary” training to the crew and more surprisingly, the crew involved in the incident/accident were well aware of the theories delivered in the training sessions and had substantial knowledge and experience.

We realised that the vast majority of training initiatives, technology-based or traditional classroom, are boring, or ineffective – usually both.

The subjects covered during the training sessions are rarely critical to the success. Training subjects were often delivered in isolation whereas while performing duties onboard several jobs may run simultaneously.

We distinguish ourselves by taking an “out of the box” approach towards training. Unlike existing training models where the topics are covered in isolation, we provide a flexible training model where the learnings are not walled within the peripheries of a topic.

Our training sessions are informal, highly interactive, energetic and fun.

We believe in creating an atmosphere in the training room where the instructor does not suggest to participant about “rights” and “wrongs” but in creating an environment where he participants analyse all the facts presented to him and judge what is “right” or “wrong”.

Hold / Hatch Inspection :

The ingress of a small amount of seawater into the cargo hold does not usually represent any risk to the safety of the ship, but even small amounts of water may do extensive damage to cargoes that are sensitive to seawater, e.g. grain, fertilizer, steel and paper cargoes.

Ensuring a ship’s hatch covers are weathertight is an essential aspect of exercising due diligence to make a ship cargoworthy requires an appropriate method of testing to enable any potential problems or defects to be identified and resolved.

We carry out thorough hold inspection to verify that the ship’s hold is ready to receive the nominated cargo. Our hold inspections consider several factors that may affect the quality of nominated cargo. Our capable and experienced inspectors:

  • Ensure that the hold is free of rust or paint chips that could contaminate or discolour the nominated cargo
  • Provide assurance that the hold is free of previous cargo remnants
  • Ensure that the holds are free from residues of previous cargo, dunnage, rust scales or loose paint
  • Check for any signs of moisture or previous water damage in the hold or bilge.

Water ingress through leaking hatch covers is main cause of damage to cargo. It is in the interest of ship owners, managers and insurers to guarantee the cargo hold is weathertight.

We have experienced staff and state of the art equipment for carrying out tests to ensure weathertightness of hatch covers ranging from visual inspections, hose test and ultrasonic testing.
